The US has a quarter of all coronavirus cases worldwide and has recorded at least 1,000 deaths for four days in a straight row.
However as the country continues to struggle to get a grip on the virus, there is positive news on the vaccine front.
Phase three of a coronavirus vaccine trial got underway in the US Monday.
The first patient Dawn Baker received the vaccine Monday morning in Savannah, Georgia.
She's one of 30-thousand Americans expected to take part in the trial of the vaccine from biotechnology company Moderna.
Savannah is one of the hundred sites being used by Moderna and the National Institutes of Health to test the vaccine.
There are currently 25 vaccine trials taking place worldwide.
Meanwhile as the mask wearing debate continues in the US, Hong Kong is cracking down on mask mandates.
In Hong Kong starting Wednesday masks are mandatory in all public places and not wearing one can land you with a 645-dollar fine.
This comes as the city aims to get a grip on the virus, recording its fifth straight day of more than 1-hundred locally transmitted cases.
