Unemployment benefits expiring

Unemployment benefits expiring

The federal program that provides unemployed Americans an extra 600-dollars per week expires Friday.

And first-time unemployment claims in the US are up for the second week in a row, with 1.4 million Americans filing for unemployment benefits for the first time last week.

This comes as the Covid-19 Eviction Defense Project and the Aspen Institute Financial Security Program says as many as 23 million renters are at risk of eviction by September 30.

Those most vulnerable to getting evicted are undocumented individuals, low-income renters and renters of color.

As millions of Americans nationwide are worried about staying afloat, GOP and Democratic leaders are reportedly nowhere near a new deal to help those struggling financially.

Both sides say funding is needed, they just can't agree on how to move forward.

The GOP's one-trillion dollar package was unveiled Monday and it contrasts greatly with the proposal House Democrats passed in May.
